Impressive dilatation of azygos vein due to congenital anomaly of inferior vena cava.
A right-sided thoracotomy was performed for pulmonary metastases in an asymptomatic patient. Preoperative computed tomography (CT) scan showed partial thrombosis or agenesis of the inferior vena cava (Fig. 1). Intra-operatively, an impressive dilation of the azygos vein was noted (Fig. 2). The azygos vein or superior vena cava was not invaded by tumour. Fig. 1. Preoperative thoracic CT scan sho...
متن کاملFailed percutaneous mitral commisurotomy due to congenital anomaly of inferior vena cava.
Since its inception in 1982, percutaneous transvenous mitral commissurotomy (PTMC) has gained increasingly wide use internationally in patients with Rheumatic Mitral stenosis. PTMC offers an alternative to surgery in patients who have pliable mitral valve.Very few reasons were reported to abort the procedure when patient lies on the table. This study presents two case reports in which congenita...
متن کاملRare congenital anomaly of the inferior vena cava
Congenital anomaly of the inferior vena cava (IVC) is a well described phenomenon [1,2]. These anomalies include complete absence, partial absence or duplication of the IVC [3]. Such anomalies of the IVC are seen more frequently in those with other congenital cardiac anomalies (0.6%–2%) [4]. This congenital condition can be discovered incidentally, or due to symptoms of associated congenital he...
متن کاملIsolated dilatation of the inferior vena cava
The diameter and collapsibility of the inferior vena cava (IVC) should be interpreted in consideration with other clinical and echocardiographic parameters before drawing definitive diagnostic conclusions. We report a case of a 46-year-old female with isolated IVC dilation and diminished inspiratory collapse without other abnormalities, and provide a brief review of the literature.
متن کاملIdiopathic dilatation of inferior vena cava.
A case of isolated dilation of inferior vena cava with diminished inspiratory collapse is reported. There was no other abnormality. Diameter and collapsibility of IVC should be interpreted in collaboration with other clinical and echocardiographic parameters before drawing any definative conclusion.
